Guernsey is a small island in the Channel
Islands and we have spent a week here enjoying the sun and the delicious seafood. For a change last night we went for dinner at an old converted slaughterhouse called … The Slaughterhouse! It still had some lovely seafood on the menu but I decided to stick with the theme and order a Smokehouse Platter.
It came with BBQ ribs, pulled pork, cornbread, and smoky beans among many other things - see the menu above.
The BBQ ribs were tender ribs, slow-cooked with a smoky flavour and glazed with a tangy barbecue sauce. Juicy, shredded pork was lightly sauced, with a deep, smoky taste. A warm, slightly sweet cornbread with a soft texture, was perfect for soaking up the flavours. Rich, savoury beans were cooked with bacon, adding a hearty, smoky flavour to the dish.
It was a delicious combination of smoky, sweet, and savoury tastes.
