As part of my Food & Nutrition GCSE I have to complete NEA coursework. We had to base our research and meal plan around a celebration so I chose the traditional Mexican celebration 'The Day of the Dead.' I chose this as I love Mexican food but also because it was a little bit different and no one else was doing it. These are my first dish - my Prawn Empanadas. In this empanada it includes: onion, garlic, prawn, carrot and the pastry on the outside is made from masa harina, a type of flour made from ground corn that is used a lot in Mexican cooking, mixed with water and hot sauce. I think this is a very interesting idea as it gives the food a nice kick with the addition of the chilli flakes in the mixture. The two are put together then deep fried to create a crispy but delicious dish. I could eat these any day of the week!
